On this national day of giving, we want to share a moment from one of our recent program events, one that captures exactly why your support matters so deeply.
During the event, Robert learned of a veteran who had been carrying an unbearable weight in silence. When he finally opened up, his voice echoed with deep resignation, with the kind of honesty that comes only when someone is out of options.
He shared that he’d been having dark thoughts.
He wasn’t sure how much longer he could keep going.
And he revealed that he had access to a firearm.
In that moment, nothing else but being present, listening, and understanding mattered. Robert immediately connected him with a Foundation team member trained in the Crisis Response Plan (CRP) and Lethal Means Safety (LMS). These are evidence-informed tools that we are integrating across all of our programs, in our fight to end veteran suicide. The Robert Irvine Foundation is meeting veterans where they are at, and in moments of profound vulnerability. Because of that connection, he learned he was not alone.
He walked away with a plan.
He walked away with support.
And he walked away with hope.
